  6. Born in Tokyo to missionary parents, Reischauer was a professor
  7. of Far Eastern languages at Harvard University and the author
  8. of a number of influential books on the relationships among the
  9. U.S., Japan and China when he was called to the diplomatic
  10. corps by President John F. Kennedy.
